Craniosacral therapy is a light-touch manual therapy that addresses restriction in the craniosacral systemthe
membranes and fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. This vital system extends from the
bones of the skull, face and mouth (which make up the cranium) down to the sacrum, or tailbone area.
Since the craniosacral system directly impacts the central nervous
system, it's easy to see how an imbalance could cause any number
of sensory, motor or neurological disabilities. Craniosacral therapy
helps to correct those restrictions so the body can release the
effects of stress naturally.
We are treating migraines, whiplash, blows to the spine or head,
learning disabilities, ADD and ADHD with success.
The balancing nature of craniosacral therapy assists in preparing
for a birth with less intervention. Vaginal birth can be very traumatic
for mom's pelvic floor, and can create torsion in the infant spinal
column and cranium, as well as ridges and compression in various
cranial sutures. This is especially ture when interventions such
as forceps or vacuum extraction are required. The instant change
in pressure for the baby born by Ceasarean section tends to restrict
all the sutures in the skull, so that the head looks very 'perfect'.
This restriction can go undetected by most physicians, and can cause
any number of sensory, motor or neurological disabilities, such
as hearing loss, hyperactivity, and even possibly autism spectrum
disorders. If treated early on (ideally in the first days after
birth), these effects can be virtually erased, leaving a happier,
healthier baby!
